During Level II fieldwork in the University of Utah inpatient rehab, I gained experiences in many areas that have added to my knowledge and experience as a professional. Evaluating   clients’ occupational performance in activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, education, work, play, rest, sleep, leisure, and social participation using a variety of assessment tools was part of my responsibilities with several clients. I was able to improve my abilities in assessing patients with a variety of conditions and levels of impairment using cognitive and physical evaluations and screenings as well as professional reasoning, and interpreted results based on terminology of the profession and relevant theoretical frameworks. (ACOTE standard #1)

Based evaluation findings, I was able to develop goals, care plans and occupation based interventions in collaboration with the client and their families. I had the opportunity to work with several different cultures and strived to create intervention plans that were culturally relevant and evidence-based. (ACOTE standard #2)

In working independently with clients I gained experience in effectively interacting through written, oral, and nonverbal communication with the clients and their families through daily sessions, and family meetings. I reported in weekly interdisciplinary meetings on each patient to other therapies, nursing and doctors through written and oral communication. Lastly, I was able to communicate my clinical reasoning as well as inquire about my supervisors clinical reasoning to gain knowledge and perspective in the hospital setting. (ACOTE Standard #5)
